What the numbers look like
Published national ranges: basement $1,500–$4,000, attic $1,000–$4,000, crawl space $500–$2,000, and $10–$25 per square foot overall (Fixr 2025, This Old House 2026). A separate inspection runs about $303–$1,044 (HomeAdvisor 2025). These are estimates, not quotes. Falcon quotes come from the companies, and the cost guide has a calculator.
Insurance in Falcon follows the same rule as everywhere in Colorado: mold is usually covered only when it follows a sudden covered event such as a burst pipe or appliance failure, often with a sublimit of $1,000–$10,000. Slow leaks, seepage and groundwater are usually excluded. Hail damage to the roof is a separate claim from the mold under it. Document everything before cleanup and read your sublimit; no one can promise a payout.
Colorado has no state mold license. Ask any company that replies about IICRC S520 or ACAC training, general liability insurance and a written protocol. We do not verify credentials and do not do the work ourselves.
Falcon mold questions
Is Falcon part of Colorado Springs for permits and quotes?
No. Falcon is unincorporated El Paso County; residents voted 78% against incorporation in May 2007. Permits come from the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department under El Paso County rules. Cleaning and removing finishes usually needs no permit; rebuilding framing or moving plumbing or electrical does. Most Colorado Springs mold companies treat Falcon as a normal service area. This is general information, not legal advice.
What is the most common mold problem in Falcon subdivisions?
Finished basements and hail-damaged roofs, in roughly that order. A 1990s or 2000s home with a finished basement hides seepage behind drywall until it smells. Hail east of the city cracks shingles that then leak into attics for months. Both are easier to scope with a moisture meter than by looking, which is why quotes usually start with an inspection.
My Falcon property is on septic. What if it backs up?
A septic backup is Category 3 water. It needs containment, removal of soaked porous materials and disinfection, not just drying. There is no utility to claim against, and standard homeowners policies exclude backups without a sewer or septic endorsement. Check your policy, photograph everything before cleanup, and request quotes that say Category 3 in the scope.
